a good morning habit.
a song to set the scene // without a word by sara watkins
I had succumbed to a listical.
Doom scrolling late one evening, I got sucked into reading a article about healthy habits and waking up.
I’ve seen plenty of them, read plenty of them, and have even gone as so far as to apply said habits in the hopes of waking up happier, healthier, and more prepared for my day.
Writing in a grattitude journal, avoiding my phone first thing, moving for ten minutes, and on this particular listical: basking in the sunlight.
After being cooped up all night in a dark bedroom, adjusting one’s eyes to natural light apparently helps sends signals to the brain that it’s time to wake up.
So, for the past couple of days, that’s what I’ve been doing.
Well, on this particular morning, when I dramatically pulled my velvet curtains apart to let in the morning rays, I was greeted in the most Alaskan way.
Standing mere feet from my bedroom window were two moose, hungrily munching on the plants bordering my house.
It startled me at first. No matter how many moose (meese?) I’ve seen in these here parts, they never cease to amaze me.
They’re huge! And powerful, and capable of stomping the shi* out of you.
But today, they were enjoying breakfast, and I was enjoying them.
A moment as fleeting as they come, both my cats jumped up to watch these magnificent creatures enjoying their morning, and the three of us stood there and marveled at the sight.
They recommend basking in the sunlight when you wake up, to adjust one’s eyes to the natural light. And they’re right, it is a healthy habit to start your day.
And who knows… you may just wake up to see two moose outside of your bedroom window…
